DeepSeek Harness v0.2.0-rc.1 was released on September 28, 2026. The first 0.2.0 release candidate focuses on Desktop, plugin management, automation, and recovery rather than a model change. Sessions using DeepSeek account models can search the web without another API key, Schedule moves into an optional bundle, and tool-scheduling failures gain a recovery path.
Major changes
| Area | Change | User impact |
|---|---|---|
| Web search | DeepSeek account models need no extra search API key | Built-in search works after account sign-in |
| Automation | Schedule is provided by the optional Automation tasks bundle | Enable it explicitly from Plugins after upgrading |
| Plugins | Better installation guidance, inventory, and configuration saves | Compatibility and state are easier to understand |
| Creator Mode | Adds plugin-development guidance and an Agent-experience skill | The Agent can assist with plugin creation |
| Tool scheduling | Settles pending results after scheduler failure | One transient failure no longer has to poison the Session |
| Windows sandbox | Adds permission diagnosis and recoverable repair | Access denials can be investigated before widening access |
Why automation moved out of the default composition
0.1.7-rc.2 already contained Schedule, Time Context, and UI packages, but kept them disabled. rc.1 packages the three capabilities as the optional Automation tasks bundle. The Plugins page now owns installation and activation instead of the default Web Profile carrying disabled rows.
If the scheduling entry disappears after an upgrade, the feature was not removed. Enable Automation tasks from the official plugin group and confirm Schedule, Time Context, and UI are active together. Host-owned task records remain separate from this composition change.
Recovering from tool-scheduler failures
A model can emit several tool calls before the scheduler fails. Older paths could close the step with calls that had no matching results; the next provider request then rejected the malformed history and made the Session permanently unusable.
rc.1 settles outstanding tool results before the failed step closes. If an operation may have executed but its result is unknown, the Agent is told to verify side effects before retrying. This distinction matters for file writes, publishing, payments, and remote commands: repairing the conversation is not permission to repeat an action.
Windows diagnosis boundaries
The new diagnosis skill explains supported Windows sandbox access denials and performs only authorized, scoped repairs with backups. It does not automatically switch to danger-full-access, and it does not treat every permission failure as the same ACL problem. Diagnose the target path and its ancestors before changing permissions.
Upgrade checklist
- Back up
.dshdata, Profiles, and plugin configuration. - Enable Automation tasks if scheduled work is required.
- Test web search with a DeepSeek account model.
- Use a controlled multi-tool failure to verify Session recovery.
- Save the diagnosis report before authorizing a Windows repair.
- Check plugin compatibility, image re-upload, previews, and Desktop update prompts.
